Beer Style Badge Leveling

We know there are more than just 5 different stouts, sours and pale ales in the world. You've probably already thought of 5 while reading this. And now you're making a list and heading out to pick them up. But before you do, we're happy to announce that we're extending our badge leveling system to our beer style badges. That's right, you can now level up the following badges all to way to 10:

• Heavy Weight
• Heffenista
• I Believe in IPA
• Johnny Appleseed
• Lager Jack
• Pale as the Moon
• Pucker Up

Each level can be unlocked by having 5 more different beers of each style. Wait, what's that? You've already had 15 different sours? Well you're in luck because the levels are retroactive, meaning that you will unlock up to the level at which you've reached (in this case, level 3*).

Please note that these badges are retroactive from 2012-08-08 and on.

Update 8/21/13

As of yesterday, we have made some changes that effect the way the badge level engine works. Previously this following was the policy:

• You can only level up once per 24 hours
• The same beer that you had before could unlock the next level if you met the quota

This created tons of confusion and annoyance among users. While we thought this would be the best case scenario (because people liked earning badges) it took away the fun of earning badges. With this in mind, we have re-engineered the badge process to automatically level you up to the level you would be at. Let's break down this down a bit:

• You have 45 beers that qualify for the Heavy Weight badge, but haven't checked in any beers of that type since the new badge levels were released
• On your next check-in to any beer that qualifies for the Heavy Weight badge - you will earn, silently levels 2-8, but the unlock screen will show Level 9.
• Your feed will now only show the most recent badge (in this case Level 9) that is unlocked
