Meet Sixpoint Brewery & Resin
Sixpoint Brewery has one of the most improbable beginnings in the craft brewing industry. This craft production brewery was founded within an 800 square foot garage in the bowels of Red Hook, Brooklyn – a former industrial and warehousing neighborhood that has long since abandoned its maritime activity. The neighborhood had been derelict for nearly 50 years, with its population in a state of decline since the 1950s when longshoremen last loaded and unloaded dozens of ship for commerce. What the brewery originally lacked in infrastructure was completely offset by its unbridled passion and prolific creativity, for within the first six years of its existence it generated over 200 styles of unique beers and captured the imaginations of its fans.
The name “Sixpoint” is derived from the six-pointed brewers’ star, an ancient symbol which has adorned the walls and equipment of craft brewers since at least the Medieval period. Sixpoint’s intention is to honor the traditions and heritage of the ancient craft of brewing, while also forging ahead to create new styles in a modern setting.
Sixpoint has continued its trademark of forging ahead with its new release, a 12 oz. sleek version of “Resin” – a strong ale with an abundance of hop flavor and character. This ale, which could loosely be categorized as a “double IPA,” celebrates the unique anatomical feature of the hop cone – a sticky resin that lends beer its signature bitter flavor. To celebrate “Resin” is to celebrate and embrace the very essence of hops themselves.
Resin provides a more intense and assertive character than any of Sixpoint’s previous canned offerings, clocking in at 9.1% ABV and 103 IBU. However, since Resin is available in a 12 oz. sleek can 4-pack, fans of Sixpoint can enjoy Resin in a tighter format and sampling session than the traditional “nanokegs.”
